Creative Steps

Creative participation for positive mental health

The Creative Steps programme fuses arts-based classes and peer-support. Working with health care providers across the south of Glasgow, the programme improves members’ mental health, strengthening their social connections.

Over the programme’s three stages, group members report feeling more resilient, better connected to and able to be part of their community, thereby allowing people to be less reliant on services.

Step 1: Arts classes in health care settings

Attending a peer-support group for the first time is daunting. Running out of health care settings, spaces that feel safe and familiar, Step 1 uses physical art activities to ease someone’s journey.

Step 2: Art classes in the community

Run from our base on Govan Road, these weekly art classes allow members to access ongoing support in their community.

Step 3: Wider participation, volunteering and events

Empowered by arts participation and social engagement, Step 3 gives members the opportunity to give back to their community and to take part in further creative classes.
